Monday, July 31, 2006Great Fares
From Anchorage Daily News:
Is it too early to start planning for your fall vacation? Certainly not. Already, folks are marking out dates for weekend trips to Seattle, getaways to Mexico and cruises in the Caribbean. In fact, there are a few bargain fares out there that may prompt you to act now. My favorite deal o' the day is Alaska Airlines from Anchorage to either Puerto Vallarta or Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The base fare is just $199 each way. Add another $105 in taxes and fees, though. Still, the final price is just $505 round trip. Thursday, July 20, 2006No Carrey McCarthy Hitch In Cabo
From The New York Post:
New celebrity couple Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy have laughed off reports they are engaged and plan to elope in September. The couple have been dating quietly since December and only went public with their romance last month. Last week, the National Enquirer claimed the couple were planning to make it official and elope to Cabo San Lucas in Mexico over the Labor Day holiday weekend. However, Carrey's representative says, "They are not engaged. It's a rumor." McCarthy's spokesperson reiterates, "They are not engaged." I guess that overrides this. Monday, July 17, 2006The Bikini In Cabo
From Newsday.com:
The author proves her personal affinity with the bikini before readers even get to Chapter 1. There's a photo of the statuesque Killoren Bensimon in a brown string bikini top and skimpy bottoms held together at the hips by wide rings in the surf of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, with one of her two daughters, who also is in a bikini. "The navel is a zone of contention," Killoren Bensimon says during a recent interview. "It's a different kind of exposure than people are used to. In the '60s, it was so sexy - everything was about the sexual revolution. In the '50s, top movie actresses wore bikinis to prove their credibility. Now an 'actor' wouldn't ever pose in a bikini." From Cabo San Lucas, George Landrum of Fly Hooker Sportfishing said, "I am now able to say officially that the summer season in Cabo is upon us. I could not say that until I had hooked my first blue of the season and we did that on the 7th, with a blue that was well over 350 lbs. crashing the short corner plunger and charging the boat. As always, the guys with the video cameras were asleep and did not get any film of the fish, but it was a classic take and then an epic show, at least until the hook pulled with the fish 300 yards out."
From The Log. Tuesday, July 11, 2006His Favorite Resort
Cabo San Lucas in Baja California on the Mexican coast is an inspirational place. It's only a two-hour flight from Los Angeles but it still has the romance of a little town and hasn't been overdeveloped. The beaches are amazing: they stretch as far as the eye can see and the water is extremely clean. In the evenings, its wide variety of restaurants and bars serve great food. This was where Hollywood stars such as Marilyn Monroe came to recharge and relax during the 1950s. [The Independent]

From WorldGolf:
Meanwhile, having seven golf courses built and four on the way, the Mexican resort peninsula of Cabo San Lucas has developed into a great new golfing destination. With tracks such as Cabo del Sol, designed by Jack Nicklaus and Cabo Real by Robert Trent Jones Jr. setting you back about $250 for a round, it may be pricey. But if you're going to put the time and money into going to Cabo, these oceanfront golfing resorts are definitely worth the extra cash, Baldwin says. Sunday, May 14, 2006This Place Is Hot, Hot, Hot
The list of media and business heavies heading to the southern end of the Baja peninsula, a two-hour flight from Los Angeles, is weighty indeed. Try these for a few examples of recent visitors: Robert Redford, Jim Carrey, Barbra Streisand, Jennifer Aniston. Regular guests at the Esperanza, where I spent a few days just after new year, are Paul McCartney, Gwyneth Paltrow, Chris Martin, Brooke Shields, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. There, have I dropped enough names to convince you that this place is hot, hot, hot?

While Jarome Iginla, Robyn Regehr and Jordan Leopold are battling for Olympic glory, the rest of the Flames are on vacation.
