Monday, January 31, 2005Hoiberg should make three-point shootout
From StarTribune.com:
Hoiberg, at the moment, isn't merely leading the league in three-point percentage; his current mark of 53.2 percent (41-for-77) would be a single-season NBA record, higher than any of the 25 leaders in that category since the shot was enacted for the 1979-80 season. Hoiberg bounced back in his first season with Minnesota to set a franchise mark of 44.2 percent. Now he is ready to take it, and himself, to another level. He and his wife, Carol, have vacation plans again in Cabo San Lucas, where they spent the 2004 All-Star break. But Hoiberg happily would change them for a quick little -- and long-distance -- trip to Denver. 7 Nights From December 18 2005 to December 25 7 Nights From December 24 2005 to December 31 7 Nights: December 31 2005 to January 6 (Offer good until March 15, 2005) Sunday, January 30, 2005Kimbo's Wedding

From BostonHerald.com:
And while Tom Brady gears up to play his third Super Bowl in four years, where, you might wonder, is perennial pigskin bridesmaid Peyton Manning? Drowning his sorrows in Cabo San Lucas, according to the New York Post. No. 18 was spotted in Edith's restaurant and ``looked totally dejected and had a puss on his face of `Don't bother me,' '' a spywitness reported. Peyton was slamming Coronas whilst the bride, Ashley, sipped margaritas. ``Everyone knew who he was, including the Mexican waitstaff,'' the South of the Border tattletale told the Post. ``He kept telling the waiters, `This week, I am known as Javier Lopez.' '' Peyton devoured a platter of shrimp, lobster tail and filet mignon, but avoided all eye contact and ``stared out into space a lot,'' said the witness. ``At one point, his wife asked him if he was listening to her and when he did not respond, she grabbed his hand and asked him again and he said despondently, `No, I was thinking about football.' From The Sun Herald:
Tom and Mary Davidson of Gautier are well-known for their hospitality... They began celebrating their 50 years together last December with a two-week cruise with their children and grandchildren. They cruised to Aruba, through the Panama Canal, Costa Rica, Cabo San Lucas, Acapulco and other sites in Mexico, ending in San Diego. 7 Nights From December 18 2005 to December 25 7 Nights From December 24 2005 to December 31 7 Nights: December 31 2005 to January 6 (Offer good until March 15, 2005) Monday, January 24, 2005The day of the tackle
From The Sunday Time Magazine:
Frederick Forsyth was angling for the catch of his life in Mexico. But he wasn't expecting to hook a 550 lb marlin. Until the marlin hit the lure, I thought it was going to be another wasted day...Foot by foot the half-mile of line came back onto the reel. Then the marlin broke away and took it back. It is a matter of serious grief to hold onto a rod with screaming muscles and see the reel being stripped back almost to the brass drum. But that is what it is all about. The marlin takes the strain; the angler takes the pain. The contest is about who will concede first: man or beast... Sunday, January 23, 2005Researchers hunt the elusive hangover cure
From ContraCostaTimes:
On the third day of a seemingly endless bachelor party in Cabo San Lucas last year, Hal Walker, 33, woke up with a set of classic symptoms. His head ached. Loud noises made him wince. Bright lights hurt his eyes. Walker's flight home from Mexico to Colorado, where he is now a co-owner of the Island Grill in Fort Collins, left at 8 a.m., and it was all he could do to get to the airport. "If you can find a remedy for hangovers, that would be great," he said, voicing a sentiment familiar to anyone who has imbibed just a little too much and was sorry about it the next day. Saturday, January 22, 2005Quite A Haul
From JSOnline:
San Jose del Cabo, Mexico - The first rays of orange sunlight glistened on the blue waves of the Sea of Cortes as we arrived at the San Jose del Cabo beach. Gary Wroblewski, of Bluewater Outfitters, and I had rented a car to make the half-hour drive from Cabo San Lucas, headquarters for our six-day deep-sea fishing trip... ...This method produced several hours of non-stop action and an amazing assortment of fish By quitting time, in addition to some tuna and dorado, we had a mixed bag that included: • More than 20 trigger fish, which look like bluegills on steroids, up to about five pounds. They had nasty looking teeth and used their wide flanks to put up some stubborn resistance. • Two red snappers, about four and seven pounds. They fought like big smallmouth bass. • A pargo, which is similar to a red snapper only it’s yellow. • Two sierras, or Spanish mackerel, which have long slender bodies and fight up and down the water column; every inch of the way. • Two bonitos, a close cousin to the tuna. • One amberjack, a fish prized by anglers for its strong fight with short but powerful runs. From The Sunday Times:
Don’s greatest ambition, however, was to catch the biggest marlin in the world. When the fish were in fat supply, he flew down in his private jet and raced out to sea. His thrill of thrills was to come back into harbour with a huge trophy slung astern. Don had a big house and two guesthouses, convenient to San Lucas harbour.
