Hey Green Bay Packer fans, Joey Thomas likes it where it is warm!
Who is your favorite athlete to watch (any sport)? "Deion Sanders, because he's the best at what he does and he's an entertainer." What was your favorite sports team growing up? "The Chicago Bulls, because I was a big Michael Jordan fan." What are your off-season hobbies? "I do a lot of yoga and Pilates in the offseason to stay in shape." Do you like to travel? "I'm a traveling machine. Some of my favorite places that I've been are Cabo San Lucas, Philadelphia, and New York City." So you like tropical places and big cities? "Cabo is the only tropical spot I've been to - I haven't been to Jamaica yet, but I'm going to head there shortly." Everybody loves Cabo! Wednesday, March 30, 2005Skeet's vacation
From ESPN:
What does a pro who is locked into a heated battle for the Angler of the Year title do the week before the season finale? If you're Skeet Reese, you head south of the border for a little R&R at Cabo San Lucas. The California pro, who enters the Table Rock event in fourth place in the Angler of the Year race, joined his wife, daughter and other family members for a week in sunny Mexico. He flew south from Tulsa after shooting segments of the Greatest Angler Debate television series, which debuts April 2nd on ESPN2. 7 Nights From December 18 2005 to December 25 7 Nights From December 24 2005 to December 31 7 Nights: December 31 2005 to January 6 (Offer good until March 15, 2005) Tuesday, March 29, 2005Cabo San Lucas: Home To The Cadbury Bunny?
This is a cute one from Holly, a 5th grader:
Easter is a holiday thought up by the Swiss to celebrate the return of the Cadbury Bunny from Cabo San Lucas (where he spends the winter).* His return is marked by various wretched milk chocolate treats and pastel colors abounding. Who knew? Monday, March 28, 2005Made It To Cabo
From The Traveling Terrapin:
We sailed into Cabo San Lucas this morning after 5 days straight on the boat. Running shifts on sailing all night long has eliminated any schedule or sense of morning, afternoon, evening...sleep when you want..eat when you want...you can even have Tecate for breakfast we've discovered. Could be a fun series of posts. Check it out! Sunday, March 27, 2005Drinking Dragon
From Steve:
Cabo San Lucas, in front of the Drinking Dragon, which is a point that separates the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific Ocean. This is right at the southern tip of the Playa Grande resort. It is a beautiful site. You should take a look. Saturday, March 26, 2005Ocean Fishing Report: In Cabo
From sbsun.com:
ALBACORE: Only rain and bad weather are keeping boats from exploring a huge pocket of 63 degree water sitting 160 miles south of San Diego. The Royal Polaris, Fishermen's Landing in San Diego, was just starting a long range trip and was motoring through the area on its way south toward Cabo San Lucas. They reported plenty of jig-strikes with few bait fish on albacore to 20-0. Action was not good enough to stop and fish for the longfins since they are on their way to target giant yellowfin tuna further south. Friday, March 25, 2005Surf's Up! SIMA In Cabo.
From BostonHerald.com:
The SIMA Image Awards give surf industry manufacturers and retailers the opportunity to identify candidates and vote for the industry's most influential companies in each category. A call for nominations for the seven award categories was sent to SIMA member companies in February and the five companies that received the most nominations are the nominees in each category. The winner in each category will be selected by retailers and manufacturers through a confidential voting process conducted by mailed ballot. Ballots will be mailed the last week of March and must be returned to the SIMA office before Friday, April 22, to be counted. The results will be kept under lock and key until the winners are announced at an awards ceremony during SIMA Surf Summit 8 in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, May 12-15, 2005. The Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA) is the official working trade association of more than 300 surf industry suppliers. Founded in 1989, SIMA is a non-profit organization that serves to promote awareness of the surf industry and participation in the sport of surfing through public relations efforts and a variety of services, educational programs and research. In addition, SIMA actively supports oceanic environmental efforts through its 501(c)(3) charitable environmental foundation, the SIMA Environmental Fund. In the past 15 years, SIMA's Environmental Fund has raised more than $2.5 million for environmental groups seeking to protect the world's oceans, beaches and waves. Larsen at Animal Pictures shares this picture of some big, cuddly, lazy sea lions in Cabo San Lucas. I can't say for sure, but it looks like they are at the arch. That's where we have seen them. Just click on the picture to get a bigger view of these hilarious creatures.

From the LA Times:
"It's been the best season for big fish in the history of San Diego sportfishing," says Bob Fletcher, president of the Sportfishing Assn. of California, which monitors the long-haul boats. "Last year was good. This year has been even better." Skippers credit abundant bait such as mackerel and jacks, better tackle, fewer sharks, and warmer water at higher latitudes for pushing fish farther north from their normal haunts near the equator. Favored destinations for this year's catch include the Clipperton atoll, 550 miles west of Acapulco, and Hurricane Bank off Cabo San Lucas. Fishing anyone? Tuesday, March 22, 2005Cabo San Hollywood
From Auburn Journal:
In showbiz, it's all about connections - and the Sacramento crew that wrapped filming a short feature in the area this weekend has more connections to Auburn than you might think... A year ago, Lewis' girlfriend met producer Jo Haskin, also the director's wife, at a mutual friend's wedding in Cabo San Lucas. She mentioned Lewis' Victorian office and Jo Haskin tucked the information away until this film. There's no business like show business...in Cabo San Lucas. Monday, March 21, 2005More and More Ex-Pats To Mexico Including Cabo San Lucas
From KansasCity.com:
MEXICO CITY - (KRT) - The day after the U.S. presidential election, Jim and Joan Marker left for a scheduled vacation in San Miguel de Allende, central Mexico. Now they've decided they'd like to live there permanently. The Alabama couple are among the many United States citizens who have been going south, for adventure or a new life. The decades-long trend has gathered steam in recent years, statistics show, and Mexico is undergoing a sustained Americanization, with Americans buying more property, seeking permanent residency and congregating in enclaves that seem like home abroad. The U.S. State Department estimates that the number of Americans in Mexico has increased from about 200,000 a decade ago to between 600,000 and 1 million today. Cabo San Lucas also. Who would have thought? Sunday, March 20, 2005Nikki Beach Club
What is the Nikki Beach Club? From the Miami Herald:
It's a formula combining laid-back with deluxe that the father and son duo of Jack and Mike Penrod have perfected over the past six years as they have ramped up Nikki Beach Club from a SoBe watering hole into a global brand exuding trendy cachet. ''We've kind of branded ourselves as a fun, casual, relaxed lounge for the jet set lifestyle,'' said 35-year-old Mike, displaying a touch of that Nikki hipness with glistening, slicked back hair and an impossibly white blousy linen shirt -- from the new Nikki fashion line, he reveals. ``We're really the first luxury-type restaurant lounge outside on the sand.'' The younger Penrod is making a pit-stop at the home base Nikki Beach, which boasts the enviable address of 1 Ocean Drive. He's just back from Atlantic City, where the company's debuting a beach club complex with Resorts Atlantic City in May, and he's already got his bags packed to fly off to Mexico to unveil Nikki Beach Club Cabo San Lucas. That will give Nikki Beach 10 venues in tony tourist sunspots in Europe and the Americas. Also on the menu are a club-lounge in Manhattan, Nikki Midtown, slated to open in late summer, and boutique hotels. Sounds like another cool reason to go to Cabo San Lucas! From The Olympian Online:
It's fitting that a recipe with such flair comes from an endearing man whose passion for cooking radiates fromthrough and through, from his love of good food to singing Italian songs to his patrons. Zappala is chef and co-owner with Antonella Spinella of Capo San Giovanni. The restaurant is tucked away on a side street in downtown Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, but one step inside transports diners to the Italian countryside -- tables al fresco on a cozy patio and tantalizing aromas wafting through the air. Mmmmm. Italian food, the marina, private beach,.....Cab-oh! Wednesday, March 16, 2005From wild to mild at Los Cabos
From RedlandsDailyFacts.com:
CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico - Los Cabos has long had the reputation of being a wild, spring-break stop for young people. It has quickly grown into a top travel destination that caters to all palates - delivering a wild time, sport, relaxation ... or all of the above. From London Free Press:
Kutcher's wild friend ruffles Demi Ashton Kutcher, 27, and his love, Demi Moore, 42, had their first big public fight while on holiday in Mexico. While Demi wanted to be alone with the man she wants to marry, they were joined in a Cabo San Lucas club by Ashton's wild-child friend, Bijou Phillips, and her boyfriend, Danny Masterson. Demi was appalled when Bijou cut loose, flirting and dancing with various men. When Ashton defended his young pal, Demi flew into a rage and walked out saying "I'm going to have to re-evaluate this relationship." PREDICTION: Demi won't sever this romance; it's Ashton who'll do the walking. Just in case you were not caught up on the latest between Ashton and Demi. Here's a cool story about a girl, a fish, and a dad:
This is a youngster whose fishing scrapbook shows a young girl growing up on local sport boats. There's a shot of her holding the bill of a striped marlin her father caught off Cabo San Lucas. There are pictures from her first trip ever, a wide-open bite on sculpin that won her young heart. Those are followed by shots of her with albacore, yellowtail, bluefin tuna, yellowfin, dorado, white seabass, sculpin, lingcod, rockfish and calico bass. Check out the whole SignOnSanDiego.com story! From ContraCostaTimes.com:
The evening also featured a silent auction offering original artwork, sports memorabilia, jewelry and a wide selection of wines -- I spotted a number of bottles dating from the '60s and '70s, as well as more recent vintages -- in addition to a live auction that included a number of "priceless" items. Among them were an electric guitar signed by Bruce Springsteen, a leather-bound script from the movie "One Hour Photo" autographed and donated by Robin Williams, and a first-class trip from Stockton to Cabo San Lucas on Wheelchair Foundation founder Kenneth Behring's private MD87 for -- what else -- a wheelchair distribution, as well as accommodations, dining and entertainment.
