The current world record wahoo was caught July 29, 2005, by 15-year-old Sarah Hayward of Nacogdoches while fishing aboard charter boat Pez Espada with Capt. Gerry Martinez out of Cabo San Lucas. It hit a “Mean Joe Green” lure.

Larry Edwards of Cortez Yacht Charters reports that “the continuing oddball current phases with a 25-mile wide streak of very warm water” flanked by cooler water on both sides are keeping billfish close to Cabo. The Gaviota Fleet reported 19 striped marlin in 23 trips, with 15 releases and one dorado.
